MASSAGE TREATMENTS

Hot Stone

What is Hot Stone Massage?

A Hot stone massage is a holistic remedial massage using hot stones.

Hot Stones are volcanic pebbles (full of iron which holds heat), heated and used as a tool to massage stiff, aching and painful muscle areas. It is often mistaken for a beauty treatment which aids just relaxation, however it can treat a variety is conditions.

How does hot stone massage work?

The heat from the stones warms and relaxes the muscles, which allows the therapist to apply deeper pressure, if desired. The warmth of the hot stones improves circulation, calms the nervous system and promotes muscle relaxation.

Where do you place the stones?

The stones are placed at specific points on the back, ‘chakra points’ in the palms of the hand, or between the toes. The chakra points are the body’s energy centre. It is believed to vitalize the physical body and re-balance the energy levels, mind and inner being.

Colder stones can be alternated with the use of hot basalt or basanite stones to promote healing and detoxification.

Will the stones burn me?

No. Definitely not. Our therapist always holds the stones first before touching them to your body, which ensures that the temperature will not be too hot. However, everyone has their own comfort range. Be sure to speak up if the stones are too hot for you.

How will the stones feel?

The stones are never rough. They are always flat and smooth. The stones used on the back are about the size of your palm and are flat.

Swedish Massage

What are the benefits of Swedish massage?

Swedish massage therapy is the most well-known and widely practiced type of therapeutic massage—and for good reason. This type of massage focuses on muscle relaxation, targeting superficial muscles (rather than the connective tissues targeted in deep-tissue massage) and increasing blood circulation.

*Pain management. If you have a condition like sciatica or osteoarthritis and are suffering from chronic pain as a result, Swedish massage can be an effective method for managing that pain in a natural way. Notify your massage therapist about your pain points, he or she can target those areas and use a stroking motion to improve local circulation and reduce muscle tension.

*Increased blood flow. Your Swedish Massage Therapist should use effleurage – a long, stroking motion in the direction of blood flow towards the heart – in order to open up your blood vessels and increase your blood flow. Increased blood flow means that your muscles are getting more nutrients and oxygen and that your body is removing toxins more efficiently.

*Rehabilitation for muscle injuries. Your Therapist should also rely on kneading and friction to address any existing injuries, such as adhesions (which occur when muscle tissues fuse together). Many people say that this technique, which relaxes layers of muscle, makes it feel as if the Massage Therapist is “working out the kinks.”

*Increased flexibility. When your muscles are more relaxed, you’re able to experience a wider range of motion. A combination of Swedish massage and regular stretching is a great way for anyone to stave off workout-related injuries and get the most out of their periods of exercise.

*Reduced stress. Swedish massages help to maximize relaxation—you’ll be on a massage table, in a peaceful environment, with a professional spending an extended time, giving you a massage. The combination of the hands-on attention and the environment helps relax you, lowering the level of the stress hormone cortisol in your body. Lowering your stress level offers a surprising number of additional benefits, including reducing or eliminating tension headaches, giving you more energy, and allowing you to get a better night’s sleep.

*Improved immune system. One other great benefit of reducing your stress with a Swedish massage is that the lower cortisol levels allow your immune system to grow stronger, meaning that you’re less likely to get sick and can spend more time doing the things you enjoy.

What can I expect during my massage?

Massage therapist at Essence of Beauty may use fingertips, knuckles, hands, elbows, and forearms during Swedish massage.

What is different about a Swedish massage?
Swedish massage is gentler than deep tissue massage and better suited for people interested in relaxation and tension relief. Swedish massage may loosen up tight muscles caused by daily activities such as sitting at the computer or exercising.

Swedish massage is a great way to treat yourself—but it’s also a lot more than that. The physical and mental health benefits of a Swedish massage make it a great option for those new to massage or someone looking to a complete massage experience.

Will a Swedish massage hurt?

It shouldn't’t hurt. You should always feel free to speak up if the pressure is too much for you.

MoroccanTan

How long does it take?

The therapist takes approximately 15 minutes to apply your spray tan and you will have time to get undressed and once your spray tan is applied, there is no waiting time before you can redress as the spray tan dries on contact. You should allow 25 minutes for the whole appointment.

Will I go orange?

No your spray tan will not go orange. If you are looking for a year-round bronze glow, look no further. A Moroccan spray tan is an amazing way to achieve exactly the colour you desire without risk of harmful UV rays as you would with sunbeds back in the day, a foam mitt and a bottle of self tan from the local pharmacy was all we needed to prep our skin for a night on the town. But along with that experience, bad memories come flooding back. Streaks, pale patches, self tan all over your white bed sheets…

A professional spray tan is a brilliant way to ensure a high quality, even tan with no streaks in sight.

At Essence of Beauty, we offer MoroccanTan, The Original Infused Argan Oil Spray Tan.

Will it transfer on to my clothes?

A little may come off onto your clothes but this washes out and will not stain.

Who am I ?

Founded in 2011, in the sunless tanning motherland, Australia, MoroccanTan is a globally recognised premium tanning range. Harnessing the important properties of naturally derived and ethically-sourced ingredients from across the globe, the MoroccanTan range works effortlessly to create nourished skin and an envious all-over natural glow.

Is it safe?

The Spray tans are completely safe, free of parabens and 100% UV free. But we do not recommend spray tans for clients who suffer from severe eczema, psoriasis or those who have bad cuts or abrasions.

Is it safe to use when pregnant?

It's generally considered safe to use fake tan creams and lotions during pregnancy. But it's probably best to avoid spray tans, because the effects of inhaling the spray are not known.

The active ingredient in fake tan is dihydroxyacetone (DHA). This is a non-toxic substance that reacts with cells in the outermost layer of the skin and produces a brown pigment (colour) called melanoidin. As the DHA isn't thought to go beyond the outer layer of skin, it isn't absorbed into the body and can't harm your baby.

Even though there are no known risks to your baby from using fake tans during pregnancy, there is a risk you could have an allergic reaction to them.

This can happen because the changes in your hormone levels can make your skin more sensitive than normal.

At Essence of Beauty we will not offer anyone who is pregnant a spray tan, as your safety comes first.

How long does it last?

Your tan Will last around 10 days, the correct preparation and aftercare must be followed to achieve this.

CRYSTAL CLEAR FACIALS & MICRODERMABRASION

How much skin does microdermabrasion remove?

Done properly, this treatment should take off only the very outer layer of the epidermis. This layer is called the stratum corneum. It is made up of dead skin cells. Since no living tissue is removed during this type of skin exfoliation, it is not as irritating to the skin as deeper treatments like laser resurfacing or chemical peels.

What skin problems can microdermabrasion treat?

The main skin issues microdermabrasion addresses are:

Dull skin tone
Age spots
Uneven skin coloration
Rough skin texture
Fine lines

A thick layer of dead skin cells on your face can make these signs of sun damage and aging more apparent. Exfoliating the dead skin reveals fresh, new skin underneath.

Can microdermabrasion shrink my facial pores?

Some patients report that their pores appear smaller after microdermabrasion. This treatment doesn't actually shrink pores, but it can help unclog them. This makes skin look clearer and more even.

I have acne. Am I a good candidate for microdermabrasion?

Many patients do use this treatment for skin flaws such as mild acne. Microdermabrasion is only suitable for treating acne patients with an outbreak of white heads and black heads but not too many red and infected pustules. The procedure could make moderate-to-severe acne worse by increasing skin irritation and spreading the surface bacteria (p. acne's) that cause outbreaks.

Is microdermabrasion only for patients with light skin?

No. Unlike many chemical peels, this skin exfoliation treatment is used successfully on patients of all skin tones. You do need to tell your therapist if you have a history of:

Sensitive skin
Rosacea
Eczema
Psoriasis
Hypertrophic or keloid scarring

These issues may make you a poor candidate for this procedure since microdermabrasion can increase inflammation and lead to unwanted pigment changes.

Do I need a consultation before having a microdermabrasion?

It's not necessarily a good idea to just walk into a salon and ask for this treatment. It's best to have a professional consultation first. Depending on your daily skin care regimen, you may need to make a few changes to prepare your skin. This could include temporarily stopping the use of harsh exfoliating scrubs or retinol and glycolic acid products that can make your skin sensitive. Sun exposure and waxing are other activities to avoid prior to treatment.

Can I wear makeup after treatment?

Patients can typically apply makeup 12-24 hours after their skin microdermadrasion session. You may find that mineral-based makeup is most comfortable since it can be brushed onto the skin rather than being rubbed in.

NAIL TREATMENTS

Is there a difference between Shellac and Gel Polish?

This can cause some confusion, Shellac is a brand of a number of gel polishes on the market. This is cured under a UV or LED lamp to produce a long lasting manicure. A ‘gel manicure’ is the general term that covers all brands of gel polish or ‘2 week polish’, whereas Shellac is a specific brand of gel polish made by CND. All gel polish brands have a slightly different formula because they are made by different companies. We only use the highest quality gel polishes that we have tried and tested for years. They are guaranteed to last 2 weeks!

How long does gel polish last for?

With cuticle work and full prep, a gel manicure should last about 2 weeks with proper application and aftercare.

Will Gel Extensions damage my nails?

No! If you have your extensions professionally applied, aftercare is maintained and the nail extensions are removed by qualified nail technicians, there should be no damage to your nail plate. Beware of nail technicians who leave your nails damaged, It goes without saying that if you pick at your nails or pull them off yourself, the nail will be damaged.

Do you do Acrylics?

We don't offer acrylics nails.

How do I care for my nails after a manicure?

To keep a manicure lasting to its full potential avoid getting your nails wet for too long (like doing the dishes! Wear gloves!), avoid coming into contact for prolonged periods with chemicals like those in sunscreen, and especially avoid DEET (insect repellent). Get someone else to do the DIY or tough chores that might cause your manicure to lift, and apply cuticle oil morning and night if you can. This will keep your cuticles nails super healthy. Finally, Do not pick at your nails under any circumstances

Remember your beautiful nails are jewels not tools.

How is Gel Polish / Shellac Removed?

Gel polish is very difficult to remove with standard nail polish remover and if you peel it off it can damage your nails so it is always advisable to book in for professional removal with us. This involves applying pads soaked with acetone to your nails with foil wraps, after a while a trained tech will then use tools to shift the last of the polish and neaten up your nails ready to go!

Why should I use cuticle oil?

Cuticle oil is something we love! Not only does it smell heavenly, but it keeps your nails and the skin around them in tip-top condition. It intensively moisturises and leaves the nail bed very healthy, which encourages your nails to grow. Nail plates can get very dehydrated easily, but cuticle oil application is such an easy way to avoid this, leaving beautiful nails!

LYCON WAXING

What is Lycon Waxing?

Lycon wax created the best waxing system in the industry, delivering a completely new waxing experience. Lycon wax is formulated with the finest natural resins, bees wax and sensuous aromatherapy oils.

Lycon delivers superior results, removing stubborn hair's as short as 1mm.

I have never had a wax before, should I trim or shave the hair first?

It is recommended to trim your bikini hair to around a quarter of an inch before your appointment.

I am pregnant, can I get waxed?

Absolutely! Any area of waxing is 100% safe right up until your due date.

How long should I grow my hair before my first wax?

2-3 weeks

What can I do before the treatment?

Before your treatment its a good idea to gently exfoliate the area using a body brush or rough mitts in the shower, this will buff away dead skin and release any trapped hairs.

What can't I do before and after the treatment?

Do not use a sunbed within 24 hours of a wax, wax is a heat treatment and can burn your skin. No moisturizers on the day of our treatment as the greasy oils can make the wax less effective. Wear loose clothing to allow your skin to cool down. Be careful when taking a shower afterwards make isn't too hot as your skin will be extra sensitive.

Why is waxing better than shaving?

When you wax, the entire hair shaft is removed, root and all, rather than cutting it off at the surface of the skin like you do when you shave. This leaves your skin super smooth with no stubble. Waxing also lasts much longer than shaving, and the hair grows back thinner and finer with repeated treatments.
